Use the correctly sized spool cap to make the thread ride the edge of the spool cap into your machine without touching the spool. This will prevent damage to the machine by creating a smooth entry to the machine. Using the wrong size or no cap at all can cause additional tension prior to the thread entering the machine. This causes poor stitching and potential damage to the machine itself over time. This disk/cap is 1.1 inches wide, fitting many medium-sized spools.
